FAQ
What size quilt block should I make?
Please create a block that measures 9.5" x 9.5" (unfinished). This size includes the ¼” seam allowance on all sides, which means your block will measure 9" x 9" once sewn into the community quilt top.

Do I need to use specific fabrics?
Yes. This is a patriotic themed quilt, so your block should use red, white and blue quilting cotton fabrics. Tone-on-tone and subtle prints are welcome. We’ve included the color guide above as a guide- red, white and blue fabrics in close relation are acceptable.
What fabric colors and print are not accepted?
Blocks that include the following will not be included:
- Neon Shades
- Pastels
- Metallic Fabrics
- Holiday-Specific Prints
- Licensed Characters or Team Prints
- Floral Patterns that Overpower the Patriotic Theme
- Animal Prints
- Textured add-ons (Sequins, lace, buttons, etc.)
Can I submit more than one block?
We're limiting submissions to one block per person so that everyone has a chance to participate. Thank you for understanding!
I don’t own an INNOVA. Can I still submit a block?
Absolutely! This project is open to all quilters.
Will my block be included in the final quilt?
Yes! Every block we receive following the color and size guidelines will be included in the Community Quilt or additional quilts if we receive enough blocks for more than one.
When do blocks need to be mailed?
All blocks must be dropped off at a local INNOVA dealer or mailed by September 12, 2025.
How do I submit my block?
We offer two options:
- Drop your finished block and completed participant information sheet off at your local INNOVA dealer. You can find a local dealer at www.innovalongarm.com.
- Ship it yourself - you can mail your block directly to us using postage or your own label. (Address provided in the submission instructions.)
*Quilting guilds and groups are welcome to combine their blocks into a single shipment. Please ensure each block has its participant information sheet pinned or attached to the corresponding block so we know who made each one.
What should I ship my block in?
A simple flat envelope, such as a document envelope or a poly mailer works best. Please place your block inside a resealable plastic bag (like a Ziplock) first to protect it. No need to use a box or large package, your block is thin and ships safely in a lightweight envelope with postage.
Can I see my block in the quilt before it’s quilted?
Yes! All quilt tops will be photographed and published on our social channels. The quilt top(s) will also be displayed in the INNOVA booth at the International Quilt Festival Houston before they are loaded onto the INNOVA longarm for quilting. Stop by to see your contribution in person!
Will my name be included in the quilt?
Yes! Your name will be featured in the quilt label sewn directly on the quilt. We request that you completed the participant information sheet and include it in your package to be featured on the quilt label.
If I’m not attending Houston, will I still be able to see the quilt?
Yes! Follow along with us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/innovalongarm) and Instagram (@innovalongarm) as we share updates and photos throughout the progress.
After the show, we’ll post a full blog feature and photo gallery of the finished quilt(s) on our website, you will also receive a email showcasing the final result and all contributors.
Who is the quilt going to?
The completed Community Quilt(s) will be quilted live in our booth at the International Quilt Festival Houston and then donated to Quilts of Valor at an upcoming ceremony.
